“Where’s Granny when she’s needed?”, they all cry,
With lots of other grannies, freshly permed,
In transit, with pesetas at the ready,
Hard-earned financial freedom thus affirmed.
She’s off to Spain, that’s twice this year,
To catch a bit of sun,
Despite the fact that back at base,
The nightmare has begun.
Yes, school is out, six weeks of hell,
They want her help with that,
“You know the score, why else d’you think,
You’re in the granny flat?
“Gran holds her ground, “I’ve done my bit,
Five kids I raised, in all,
So now it’s time to spread my wings,
Before I get the call.
So grit your teeth and knuckle down,
Fulfil your role with grace,
Enjoy your kids, that’s surely why,
You had them in the first place”.
